United Way Partners with Target to spread holiday cheer

For the 24th year, United Way of Cass-Clay partnered with the local Target store in Moorhead to coordinate the “Share a Tree" program and distribute holiday display trees to individuals and families in need.

On Monday, December 22, 2014, United Way of Cass-Clay delivered multiple holiday displays from the Moorhead Target store to the Transitional Housing program from Lakes and Prairies Community Action Partnership. These trees will go to families who are in the program.  The Transitional Housing program provides supportive services for homeless families who have a strong desire to break the cycle of homelessness and are willing to work toward specific goals.

Target stores from across the nation partner with local United Ways to coordinate the distribution of decorated holiday display trees from their stores through “Share a Tree”. Since 1990 Target has celebrated the season by donating holiday trees in the store to local United Ways across the country to bring some holiday cheer to local shelters, child cares, or families who may not have otherwise been able to afford or have access to decorations. The Share-a-Tree program inspires everyone to find unique ways to give back and lift someone else’s spirit.

In 2013, more than $200,000 worth of decorated holiday display trees were donated to nonprofit agencies and families in need across the country.  Since 1962, Target team members from across the nation have invested in their communities by supporting United Way. So far in 2014, Target and individual team members donated more than $14.6 million to United Way and volunteered more than 250,000 hours with United Way-funded agencies.
