Share A Story Shows the Fun of Reading

The 13th Annual Share A Story Family Literacy event was Saturday, June 4th. Over 1,350 families enjoyed stories shared through music, dance and performances by local community members. United Way of Cass-Clay, the Fargo Park District and Prairie Public hosted and organized this free event which was open to the public.

Children and their parents enjoyed fun activities such as story-telling, musical performances, making their own books, and take home a free book. Face painting, balloons, and lunch were also be a part of the festivities. This year, children were able to meet Peg and Cat from the PBS cartoon Peg + Cat.

The purpose of the event is to help children develop their literacy skills through storytelling, singing, performing, drawing, and writing. Activities are also designed to encourage parents and caregivers to take an active and early part in their children’s literacy. Check out the event on Facebook and view photos from the event

Thank you to the 70 volunteers that were able to make this event a success! Check out this fun blog that shows how a few volunteers put together a registration process at Peak Engagement that helped to get all volunteers for this event!
