School Supply Drive

All students deserve to feel confident and prepared when they walk through the doors on their first day of school. In 2024, our goal is to provide 6,000 local students with a backpack and set of school supplies thanks to the generosity of our community!

Host Your Own Drive: In-Person
Your workplace, business, neighborhood, family, or friends can get involved by hosting your own drive! When planning, be sure to set a goal for the number of supplies you hope to collect and a timeframe that allows enough time for individuals to shop.

How: Designate a common area for collection, encourage teammates to shop for supplies, and celebrate as donations are brought into your office! Not a business? Invite friends and family to donate to your drive and collect at your next get-together or meeting.
Please drop off all donations at the FARGODOME between 8 a.m. and noon on Wednesday, July 24.

Step-By-Step Guide To Host An In-Person Drive

Step 1: Download posters to promote drive.

Download the List of School Supplies and Donate Here poster to promote your drive.

Step 2: Set up your collection site.

Put out boxes or containers (any container will do – get creative with it to help catch their eye!) in a high-traffic area of your workplace. Print out posters from Step 1 to help your team know what supplies to collect, or create and post a QR code to easily bring them to the supply list.

Step 3: Encourage participation!

Encourage your coworkers, friends, neighbors, and/or customers to donate.

Send emails, post on social media, promote on your company’s intranet, talk about it at team meetings, etc., to invite people to participate.

Step 4: Inventory supplies.

Organize and take inventory of the supplies collected on the Donation Inventory Sheet.

PRO TIP: This is a great time to organize a team photo with everyone who contributed and all the supplies you gathered! (and maybe your team will help count supplies during this time too!) Share this on social and use to help motivate your team again next year.

Step 5: Drop off Supplies.

Drop off all supplies, inventory sheet, and financial contributions at the FARGODOME between 8 a.m. and noon on Wednesday, July 24. Supplies can be dropped off in the lobby of FARGODOME, just inside the main east entrance.

Step 6: Celebrate!

Don’t forget to celebrate the impact that you are making in our community!

Celebrate and thank those on your team who contributed supplies, advocated, spread the word, and motivated others to help support the drive. Share photos of your success, gratitude of support, and the impact that their donation has made.

YOU are helping us send 6,000 local K-12 students back to school this upcoming fall with a backpack full of supplies on their back and the confidence in their hearts to succeed. On behalf of those local students and their families – THANK YOU!

Host Your Own Drive: Online Wish List – the best way to help the most kids!
When you host an online drive early, we can buy in bulk and help even more kids! By hosting your own online school supply drive, you can easily rally your coworkers, friends, family, or even your neighborhood to help our community’s kids – all online! Skip the donation bins, in-person shopping, collecting supplies, and delivering donations – do it all online with your own drive webpage. The deadline for the online drive is Wednesday, July 10. Help us jumpstart this year’s drive by doing your online drive early.

Set a goal, a timeframe, and create your own webpage to share and invite people to donate to help reach your goal. This custom webpage is easy to set up and serves as an online wish list of items for the drive. Share this page and once your drive is done, the supplies are shipped directly to United Way to get into the hands of kids in need. Setting up your online drive early means we can buy in bulk, save money, and help even more students in need.

Step-By-Step Guide To Host An Online Drive

Step 1: Launch your online drive and wish list

Select “Launch New Drive” under “Team Drives” on the right side of the webpage. You’ll be asked to sign into a previous account or create a free account.

Tip: when setting up a new account – enter the name of your company, book club, family name, neighborhood, etc. in the “Sponsor/Company Name” textbox.

Step 2: Customize your online drive and wish list

Choose your drive name, team name, upload an optional logo or graphic, and create your URL for your drive’s webpage.

Step 3: Set a goal

Motivate others by setting a goal based on the monetary amount or the number of items donated to your drive. Worried about setting your goal too low? If you reach it too quickly, you’re able to update this goal at any point while your drive is running.

  • If you are a family, neighborhood, or smaller company, consider setting a goal of 500 items or $500 in items donated.
  • If you are a larger company with an engaged and generous team, challenge them to hit a goal of 1,000 items or $1,000 worth of items donated.
  • We need and appreciate each and every donation – please know that every amount is impactful to the overall drive and helps us reach our goal of helping 6,000 students start the school year successfully.

Step 4: Communicate your deadline

All online drives will close on Wednesday, July 10, but you may choose to close your drive earlier. The earlier you give, the more time we have to buy in bulk!

Step 5: Share, encourage, and motivate

Have fun encouraging teammates, family, friends, neighbors, etc. to contribute to your drive! Consider turning it into a challenge or offering an incentive for those who participate. Share the opportunity to donate on your social media, in newsletters and at meetings. People love to shop online wish lists, so this is a great way to inspire others to give back with you.

Step 6: Have fun!

Challenge your group by providing fun updates on progress and thanking individuals who gave along the way to inspire others to participate in your drive’s success!
